Nobody mentioned propinquity to employment? Naperville has a good number of well-paying jobs. Some like to live close. Of course some just want to live in Naperville, even if working in Schaumburg.

That says nothing about the discrepancy between home/land/apt values in Naperville vs other affluent areas in the city. Naperville doesn't have more well paying jobs than downtown Chicago. I was comparing naperville to the city, not asking why apartments are expensive in Naperville.

Read my question and think before you post. So much time is wasted on these boards because of this.

Chicago has more well paying jobs, as well as more crime and mostly horrible public schools. It's not that hard to comprehend whiy people are willing to pay extra to live in Naperville, vs commuting from Cicero.

The heading of your original post says "Apts in suburbs cost same as the city. Why?"

So if you aren't asking why apartments are expensive in Naperville, then what are you asking?

Just as much time is wasted on posters dismissing valid responses. If you still don't understand why apartments are priced as they are then you aren't paying attention.

"asking why apartments are expensive in Naperville" COST THE SAME AS THE CITY! Are you illiterate? My heading was pretty clear. I never asked why they were expensive. I asked why the cost the same as the nice areas of the city.

Exactly. "cost the same as the city" not "why is expensive in naperville". Whats hard to understand about that? Read my post. I was comparing Naperville prices to the nice areas of the city, yet your post says nothing about the city or does not compare to the city. I was not asking why a suburb of Chicago is expensive. Obviously a suburb of Chicago is going to be expensive. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

Calm down. Remember, people are trying to help you find the answer. Are the nice areas of the city not expensive? Is Naperville not expensive? They're giving you reasons why Naperville is expensive so that you can compare the reasons why Chicago is expensive. Seems like you want the cliffnotes on the comparison between the two instead of doing the reading and coming to the conclusion. No need to get hostile with others trying to help YOU.

Okay, the cost is the same as the nice areas of the city because Naperville is a very nice area. Is that better? How else would you like this explained to you? Naperville has tons of amenities, a beautiful downtown, excellent schools, and is close to Metra for people who want to commute into the city for work or for pleasure.

Not all of the suburbs of Chicago are expensive. Some are quite affordable, and some are downright cheap. The cheaper suburbs are comparable to the cheaper areas of the city, for many different reasons.

And BTW, I am very literate; however, I am not clairvoyant. Maybe you should try asking what you really mean instead of expecting everyone on the forum to read your mind.
