I don't mind paying the fee since it goes to the Y and I love the Y (in fact, my husband did a HUGE volunteer project for them in San Diego where he got his company to donate an entire computer lab and he donated his time to set it up), but the chances of getting my daughter in there don't sound too great. I left messages for Cherry and School for Little Children. Chandler Newberger doesn't start registration until mid-Aug so I am going to tour that facility this week along with the others I mentioned. Am I missing any other good ones?
Jay,

Have you seen any issues of "Chicago Parent'. That shoudl be a good resource for you. Lots of preschool information in every issue.

Actually, I have two of them in our hotel room, but I haven't had time to look at them yet. Thanks!

The Northside Parents Network (www.npnparents.org) is also active in Evanston, even though it isn't technically part of the North Side. Their web site is full of info, but you have to be a member to view the message boards. They have some really great school guides and pre-school guides you can purchase.

I have to agree with Chet Everett on the costs associated with Lincoln Park... It's a great place to raise a family in the city if you can afford it. There are cheaper alternatives available in Chicago, but you can explore all of this while living in your Evanston rental. Frankly, I can't think of many advantages to city living you won't find in Evanston for your situation.

Unfortunately your husband's co-workers will probably be more suburban-minded, but meeting people with kids is probably your best resource.

Out of curiosity I checked the Cherry Preschool website to see about openings. It says they only have two openings, one of which is for a "young 3 [year-old]" girl, two days a week in the afternoon. If that's of interest, you might want to consider calling; preschools will not be too easy to get into this late in the summer.

Thanks SloopyJ! I left them a message, but I missed their office hours by 30 mins. I am going to call in the morning. Perhaps I can get one of those spots. Two days a week in the afternoon is EXACTLY what I am looking for. You guys are so great. I'd be lost without this forum.

BTW, what does the reputation # mean on this forum? Looks like I need to build a better reputation for myself. lol!

In my former life (before kids), I was a ballroom dance instructor. So I am going to need some information on the dancing scene here pretty soon. My feet are dying to get back on the floor!!!

You can find dancing of all kinds in the Chicago area. here's a dance studio in Evanston : Class Rates (http://www.giordanodancecenter.com/New_Giordano/Class_Rates.html - broken link)

Oh my goodness, we love Dancing With the Stars - cheesey I know, but it's amazing to see them dance! I unfortunately have two left feet I also can't seem to let my husband lead which he tells me is very annoying.

With those links I PM'd you, you should have several dance studio webpages in there.
