I prefer Wauconda because of the nice homes. Volo doesn't have a lot to offer except for the car musuem.

REPLY: I have to disagree with that. There are a few new developments east of Route 12 in Volo that are nice as well as affordable. Plus, Volo offers distinctive country living without being too far from towns with shops. Volo is certainly more upscale than Wauconda and is a fast future growing area . Downtown Wauconda looks dumpy , uncared for, and a traffic nightmare during the day at virtually any time.

I'll have to agree with IbeDavid.

Traffic is a nightmare. The result of building and building without considering the infrastructure to support it. Also the property taxes are outrageous - one of the results of a 60 Million dollar referendum that went entirely towards school infrastructure and none towards good teachers. They did a horrible job, the high school remodel is butt ugly. They went overbudget (spent more than the 60 Million given) and will certainly seek out the parents and taxpayers of the town to pony up the difference.

I'm looking to get out of here. It's still a nice town with some good people, but it is changing and not for the better. Problem is, it's a tough time to sell.

You are grotesquely incorrect. Hispanics (Mexicans) comprise 11% of Wauconda's population, not 29%.

Mundelein's Hispanic (Mexican) population is 24%, Round Lake 31.3%, and Waukegan 45%!!!

I have consistently heard that the schools are not that good in Wauconda. However, I do not have any real data to back this up. My impression is based on conversations w/parents and teachers from Wauconda and nearby communities. I know several families that specifically moved out of Wauconda because of the school performance. However, each child's needs are unique and you'll have to research whether it would be a good fit.

I do like the small downtown of Wauconda. There's a cool historic restaurant/bar there on the water (can't remember the name of it). I think the owner said it was haunted!

p.s. Have you ever thought about nearby Lake Zurich which I think has better performing schools?

Oh no, I just realized I was part of reviving an old thread. And part of Cuba Libre's master plan of again bringing up Waukegan and the hispanic population there! He/She even managed to bring this up in a Wauconda thread! Please ignore my previous post....

What the OP should have asked is "Wauconda place is it for a guy to live in?"

I must have offended you in a previous post/thread because you wont leave me alone. Are you a member of the Waukegan Local 150 Race Card Union?
