River Oaks is an good mall to shop at if it fits your style- the anchor stores include Carson Pirie Scott, Macy's, Sears, and JC Penny- however the smaller stores cater to black youth so there are a lot of clothing and shoe stores. If you aren't into the hip hop scene but more into the yuppie scene the best mall to shop in the south suburbs is Orland Square Mall which caters mainly white shoppers

Seconding what noid said, I'd also add that it's not the safest place to shop unless you can go during the morning hours of Mon-Thurs. There have been a few mall-clearing brawls between large groups of teenagers. One of them was a gang fight. In addition, there have been several robberies in the parking lots in the past two years.

River Oaks is not a horrible mall (it's on its way), but for a better shopping experience overall, I'd recommend Orland Square as well. Or if you want to stay east, you can try Southlake Mall in Hobart/Merrillville, which has had its troubles, but is still a nice place to shop.

I miss the days when it was an outdoor mall. I have so many fun memories of that place.

Me too!

My favorite? The concrete chairs. I always thought they were so cool.

Thanks everyone. I plan on going there soon. I live in Lynwood and always go to Southlake in Indiana. I haven't been to this mall in along time.(1970's) I hope it's MUCH BETTER than Lincoln Mall.

In my opinion, River Oaks is the hip hop mall. Like Noid said, if you're into the hip hop scene, then the mall is the perfect place to shop for you. Since I don't live too far from the mall, I usually go to that mall. Unfortually in past couple of years, there were a couple of robberies in the parking lots. River Oaks lost alot of its upscale appeal.

Im African-American and in my 40's so im not really looking for hiphop stores. My teenage children will probably like the mall. I just like the department stores like Sears and Carson's. My wife is an upscale shopper, so she would like Macy's. Does anyone think this mall will get a new movie theather? -Thanks for your help everyone!

I heard on YouTube that Kohl's will be added on as an anchor store. Is going to really happen?

No. On the contrary, Kohl's closed it's Cal City store, which was across the street from the mall, when they opened their Homewood location. It isn't too far away, but far enough to be inconvenient for many people, especially coming from the city.
