My husband and I are thinking of moving to North Glen Ellyn. We have two small children and hope to expand our family. Can anyone tell me about the schools? I know I read somewhere that many kids come home for lunch. I love that idea and wondered if that actually does happen. Are there many Stay at Home Moms in the area? What is the overall neighborhood feel. We would hope to live by the train as that is how my husband gets to work. We realize home prices are very expensive there and were hoping to find a home in the $400,000-$500,000 range.

THANKS

you would go to one of these 2 high schools, probably west if you live on the north side of town.

I'm in Glen Ellyn right now. It's your typical suburb. I don't have kids but I haven't heard anything negative about the schools.

Honestly though, I wouldn't buy a house in Glen Ellyn. Overpriced, IMO. If you're going to spend $400-500k on a house, look at the town of Barrington. The school district is excellent, the downtown area is nice and quaint, there is a Metra station right there and there are plenty of stay-at-home moms.

I grew up in Glen Ellyn during the 60's and 70's. It has changed some in that it has gotten expensive and snobbish but I would love to live there again if I could afford it. Tons of good childhood memories. Glenbard West is the best!! I walked home for lunch every day. South Glen Ellyn is newer and more suburban. You won't go wrong buying a home near downtown or Lake Ellyn.
