Anyone interested in discussing the east Wash park area, specifically the area described in James farrells books?

The neighborhood of his books disappeared a long time ago.

I used to know a Jack Farrell in south Oak Park; used to be many Irish there including the infamous Hogans and McGuires.

Surprisingly there are alot of buildings still standing from Farrells time. But the vast majority have been razed. The corner of 58th and Prarie, which used to be the neighborhood business section, is pretty well burned out. Farrell mentions the fireplug at 58th and Prarie numerous times in his Lonigan trilogy, and it's still there at the NW corner. Other than that, nowadays it's a virtual war zone. A F*ckin shame.

The neighborhood used to be even worse 15 years ago. Wait another two or three decades and it might be halfway decent. Or not, who knows?
