It was the most energy-efficient type of light at the time it was installed (all across the country, but Chicago just seems to have gone particularly orange). Previous types of lighting were noted for their "sickly green" glow. Newer types are at last getting close to a full spectrum.

I didn't add the specular highlight at the top. It's the result of aperture blades converging inward just like the starred lights in the last shot.

I like the pictures more in the original coloring. It reminds me of the roaring 20's. Not sure why, but it just looks more authentic or something.

The city is slowing switching from the sodium vapor (orange cast) to metal halide lights.
