False analogy. Antiquated standards or no standards aren't the only options. A hat at a casual dining (key word casual) establishment just ain't that big a deal.

I have a feeling those doing the writing off will be losing more than those of us being wrote off.
Nah! We'll simply maintain our standards of deportment and assume room temperature first!

It probably is but I still find it boorish. But that's just me!

It all depends on environment to a certain degree. Some places wearing a hat or being dressed in sweats is more "socially acceptable", whatever that means.

Personally I view hats as something functional, so I'm not sure why someone would wear one to dinner.

My hat comes off for the national anthem, but not for dinner, especially if the restaurant isnt even fancy. Who cares? I support hats in restaurants because you have less of a chance of getting hair in your food.

Those of us who know proper capitalization and punctuation. Those of us who were properly raised. Those of us who practice the correct social graces. In other words, those of us with a reasonable degree of sophistication and good manners!

I'm sure. As for who cares, it's those of us who have good manners and don't want to see social settings all go down the sewer. By the way, even when I had it, getting my hair in my dinner was never a problem. You'd be surprised at what a decent trim and a comb can do.

The standard has to be set somewhere. Sure, we all have the personal freedom to go shirtless and wear airbrushed porn seens on our t-shirts if we want to, but that doesn't make it polite or socially acceptable.

Most dining establishments in Chicago are casual. I would qualify most sushi restaurants, or even trendy places like Avec as "casual"--but ball caps really shouldn't be worn to places like this. Most people understand this, but every now and then you see some goof wearing a ball cap in Blackbird, and he really does stand out as a boorish hick. Go ahead and wear your ball cap in McDonalds or at the bar. Sports bars are obvious exceptions as well. But understand there is a line that excludes ONLY the most casual environments.
