Indianapolis has a far tamer Winter than Chicago. A couple hundred miles make a big difference in weather.

Driving from Indy to Chicago in the winter/spring... it will often still be cold (but not as cold) but I have seen it clear and sunny then once you get towards Chicago you start getting into clouds/overcast skies. It is like it hangs over the whole area forever.

Thanks.
I figure the OP gets to be the judge of that.

There are numerous weather/climate sites out there that can provide that. If you want data, consult a chart. If you want human impressions, ask humans.

The good part about Summer is the ocassional cold front to keep the high temp in the 70s for two or three days. Nice relief from the heat.

November thru March: miserable
April thru 1st half of May: slightly less miserable, but still miserable. Once or twice a decade it is nice though.
2nd half of May thru end of September: very nice 3 years out of 4. 1 year out of 4: crappy.
October: 50/50 nice or miserable.

Anyone who says otherwise, they're lying.

The difference between indy and chicago weather is not that much
yes i agree its a few degrees warmer but its not like
comparing chicago to phoenix!
its only a 3 hour drive

the overcast skies in the area are because of lake michigan

Dont forget there are some of us who like the cooler weather
not the sub zero when it occurs but i dont mind the winter
enjoy spring and fall better but the change is good
its the dark long days that bother me - when they change the clocks!
and that for the most part is everywhere except i think hawaii and az
