I take the train twice a day during the week and multiple times during the weekend. I very rarely see anything more than a homeless person sleeping or looking crazy. Nothing that scares me. Just ignore them. If it's too bad for you - then switch cars.

Me too, maybe we're the lucky ones.

I can assume you live in Lincoln Park with 60614? If so, then that is probably why. I live in LP now and I hardly ever see anything but when I lived in Wicker Park it was much different. I took the blue line to O'Hare and saw some dude on Heroin, he had tracks all up his arms. Also, the blue line is where I saw the things mentioned in my previous post.

^I used to ride the blue line all the time and really didn't see anything other than the occasional drunk/homeless guy. I think the red line has the worst characters on it, and that runs, of course, right through precious Lincoln Park

Maybe the red line south of the loop. I hardly doubt that any unusual characters frequent lincoln park or the other northern neighborhoods. I can only guess that is why he has never seen anything odd. I have only ever seen odd things on the blue line. The only time I ever ride the red south of the loop is to a sox game, so I dont know if that gets shady at times.

Annnd it shows. I am a red liner, and there are some shady characters on the red line. Ever been to Uptown around the Wilson stop? That place breeds shady characters

Seriously have you never been north of Lakeview? You need to get out of your bubble -- or maybe not since you dislike everything that isn't lilly white. Regardless, half the crazies in Chicago live in Uptown and many of them ride the red line.

I use to live in LP area back when I created my account. Have been in Uptown for over 4 years now and take the Red Line from Wilson to work and back daily. I'm on the Red Line or Orange Line down to Bridgeport often to see best friends of mine, and lived west of Kedzie along the Blue Line for 4 years taking that every day. Use to take the Blue and Red Lines during the middle of the night all the time heading home from bars.

Maybe I'm just lucky or have a relative view on people on the trains - but I can count on one hand how many times I've been nervous or seen something outright crazy on the trains. 90% of the time if you look confident in what you're doing and come off that "this is normal for me to see" most everyone will leave you alone and move on. If you stare at people acting weird or go out of your way to move around and look nervous, then that seems to grab attention.

Crazy things I've seen:

1) Guy who randomly started screaming racist things at an Asian kid during the middle of rush hour on the Red Line. Finally a bunch of people on the train started going off on the guy and he got off at the next stop.

2) Guy violently barfing all over himself on the Red Line. This has happened twice now.

3) Woman who crapped herself sitting in the back of the car laughing her ass off as everyone darted off the car the second they had gotten on. Blue Line.

4) Woman yelling that some guy grabbed her purse when she wasn't looking and darted off the train. Brown Line at rush hour.

5) Two thuggish guys were giving crap to some random in a business suit and when the guy told them to shove off they started punching and hitting him. He hit back and the three of them poured off the train. Blue Line.

Again....this is in the period of 11 years, so it's quite rare.
