A homeless man randomly tried to beat me up once around 7 p.m. on the blue line on a weekday. I switched seats because he kept making creepy comments about my legs and he got pissed. When he first tried to lunge at me, the guy sitting in front of me punched him instead. Then they fought for a while, but the guy who jumped into the fight ran out at Logan Square and the homeless me started going after me again. Luckily, there were men on the train who restrained him after he pushed me and attempted to talk him down while holding him in a bear hold. I ran out at Belmont, told the operator. She said she couldn't do anything except call dispatch, even though I knew which car.

Another time, a creepy man approached my sister and I, pulled out his dick and started yelling over and over again "I'm going to push you into the tracks, you ****ing *******." Even though there was a pile of CTA workers were hanging out on the platform(this was blue line, Chicago station, about 9 p.m. on a Friday) they said they couldn't do anything about him even though he kept getting closer to my sister and I. Luckily, he got on the next train to the loop.

I don't quite understand why CTA workers can't intervene, or at least make some fake effort of calling police, security, or both. But then again, I found out when my toe got sliced by one of those accordion doors that they don't even bother to keep basic first aid kits at their stations, so clearly they care very little about the safety of their passangers.

Nobody says you can't be just as crazy as they are.

I sadly have to agree that CTA could use some more committed employees. I pointed out to one that there had been graffiti on their stop for a week & the guy says "well, what's the point. they will just tag it again."

That is the problem in a nutshell - apathy.

I find it essential to have the sunglasses on (even in the subway) and earbuds in. You don't even need the iPod/MP3 player, just the earbuds. Tuck the end of the cord into a pocket or purse.

But then again, if I had my earbuds in and listening to music, I wouldn't have had a conversation with a woman who informed me that she had the flu, but she was confused as to why she contracted the flu because she hadn't been raped...

So as long as I don't get raped, I think I will remain flu free!

My friend saw a homeless guy take his thing out and "enjoy himself" while she was in the train car. She informed the conductor at the next station, and the guy was taken out by cops.

This happens so often, so I'm glad she took a stand. Probably most women who ride the CTA have had this done to them, especially if they've ridden many times.

There are so many crazies and perverts, which is why it's easier to just have a car and not deal with the BS.

I highly doubt that's even close to an accurate statistic.

Also more than 30,000 people died in a car last year FWIW.
