You already asked this, but the two locations are decent, except the area on Van Buren and Richmond looks in ruins. What's your income status - middle-class, lower-class?

Well, I haven't been in that area at all, but judging from the picture that someone posted, it doesn't look pretty. Is most of Chicago like that?

I'm looking for houses/apartments under $100k. Near downtown, preferably.

The parts with houses under 100k, yes.

You can get some 1 bed condos in decent neighorhoods on the N or NW side for that price though. They won't be much though.

1 bdrm under 100k will be studio or studios pretending to be 1 bdrms
