In the last election there were really no viable challengers to Daley, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see that again.
Whomever you pick next time make sure you put in term limits so the Daley family saga does not repeat itself. Otherwise it will be another Stroger, Mel or whichever family will run this city for the next hundred years...

One thing I'll add is that I was in a room full of older "Lakefront Liberals" drinking wine last night, and there is A LOT of dissatisfaction with Daley and Stroger. Someone who had voted for Daley before said "It's time for Daley to go", and the room was pretty much unanimous in support of this idea. The nickel and diming is the type of thing that REALLY pisses people off--perhaps more than a raise in income taxes would--even though we have no city income tax. People are MAD about the potholes. People are not happy with Daley on the North Side, and if he wins again it will be his machine doing it for him. He's losing the support of the yuppie class.

I'm really curious to see who might go up against him. That's what I'm looking forward to.

Maybe someone of a decent caliber will smell weakness and jump in, but I wouldn't count on it. We'll probably get our typical "progressive" South Side candidate who wants to expand the welfare state, curb gentrification, and drive businesses out of the city.

Without a doubt he'll be in. The only way he'll be out of that office is the day he is put into a coffin. He's in for life.

When I play SimCity my SO tells me I'm like Mayor Daley...building things when it puts me in the red and simple avenue expansions have to be rebuilt a few times until I am satisfied with their look and position. Maybe I should run for Mayor

I agree that it is time for him to go, but until a decent challenger emerges, I don't see that he is going to voted out anytime soon.

Hey, this is Chicago. There is always a lot of talk but in the end nothing happens. Chicagoans are not that great in embracing or promoting change. In this aspect it is the most conservative city I have ever seen. People will bi*ch in their backyards yet will go to booths and vote for Daley again and again, simply scared of the alternative, scared of any change. That's how Daley stayed in the office in the past As aresult Chicago is socially still in the 60's... Move on!
