It is also on the other side of the Metra tracks from one of the largest churches (Apostolic) in the city. You should be OK.

I think it may be just easier to take the bus to the Y (my wife jogs there from Hyde Park), but drive if you must. On foot, in a car or on the bus, that is not a high crime area. Me and my kids used to bike there.that expensive for students, faculty, alumni or staff.
