Hi

I am working at the University of Chicago (57th st). Since the university gym is expensive for two people, I wanted to join Southside YMCA. I went there and it has decent facilities. The only worry is how safe is it to drive to the place. Also, how are experiences regarding this YMCA. I couldn't find any decent reviews.

(sigh) You drive your car, park on Stoney at 63rd, get out, and go into the building. Not sure what's the issue with "safety." It's not a high crime area. Jackson Park is across the street, not much else there. No shady characters hanging out.

Actually, he could just park in the very large lot.

It is also on the other side of the Metra tracks from one of the largest churches (Apostolic) in the city. You should be OK.

You're worried about safety of driving to the YMCA?!? Wear your seat belt and text while driving. You'll be fine.

I think it may be just easier to take the bus to the Y (my wife jogs there from Hyde Park), but drive if you must. On foot, in a car or on the bus, that is not a high crime area. Me and my kids used to bike there.

The UC gyms are not that expensive for students, faculty, alumni or staff.

I just thought of something funny - to the OP, Uof C isn't THAT far from the Y. If you run there and back, you won't need to workout!
