It's okay to have a preference for one over the other (yes, including how you "combat" it), but stop pretending yours is universal. It's obnoxious.
I'm just very dubious of people saying "I love hot weather". I have people in England say to me "I'm loving this hot weather, it's boiling outside" when it's in the mid 60s. Then they spend half an hour outdoors in Florida in summer and they're practically dead. Like I say, I hate cold weather too. Too hot or too cold both suck.

Maybe everyone from the desert states who moves to Chicago should be required to spend a week in Malaysia first, for proper perspective of humidity. Seems feasible.

As another person who has spent years in countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, and on and on. I actually like that heat way more than harsh winters.

Florida is kind of funny, it appears to be perfect weather for 6 months, than hot and humid (just like all of southeast asia is all the time) for 6 months.

Being that I don't mind either, I'd certainly enjoy the 6 months of perfect weather.

We did have about 2 minutes of pea-sized hail in Elgin, so Chet wasn't totally wrong about yesterday's weather.

None of those help when you have to take public transit when dressed for work in an office. That's fine, if all you have to do is laze around. I do agree with you that it's a preference. I am on the side that I would much rather live in a place with very cold winters than ones with extremely hot, humid, prolonged summers. I thought last summer was hellish here.

Yeah, I've had friends who went to Thailand in summer and they said it still doesn't compare to Florida in July/August.

Summer is when we should really appreciate the fact that our train system is elevated and not underground. As a result, even the portions that are underground don't get that hot. I spent a few months in New York City last summer, and I definitely remember how refreshing it was to emerge from the subway into the much cooler 95 degree air outside.

That said, I also love the heat and humidity, and definitely prefer it to the period from September to May when I constantly wear all kinds of layers and drink all kinds of hot beverages to keep warm.

Cold is relative. Here's a graph showing the average temperatures by month. I think September to May are pretty decent, myself. In fact, I like April and October too, but it may be colder than most people like.
