So a mother that has to leave her house at 5 or 6 AM to catch a bus and drop her kids off at day care or school so that she can be on time for work has to also squeeze in time to eat at a soup kitchen on the way, then eat at a soup kitchen for lunch then get off work, get on the bus to pick up her children, then go to a soup kitchen for dinner, then stay up all night to help her kids with homework? Makes no sense.
Yes, this is what I am saying exactly. Thank you for spelling it out for me. Nobody should be on 100% public assistance for all of their meals and their kid's meals. Hopefully for said mother, the struggle is hard and the kids observe, and subsequently the kids don't have 3 kids of their own that they can't support either.

Thank you LeftWingy McWelfare: No "one person" is stealing from me. Lots of people are. For the record I don't have a problem with Illinois state taxes, I live here by choice.

Well, okay, yes, some people probably are, but I suggest you look up the food chain at the robber barons and corrupt politicians, rather than blaming the poor as those in power want you to do. If you think the very small percentage of people scamming the welfare system for a couple hundred bucks a month make up an even remotely measurable portion of the problem, you've been hoodwinked.

Do you post anything useful?

-Sorry missed your edit. I agree, they are guilty as charged. I am not upset with people taking handouts. I am ashamed at them and people who have no pride as Americans, but if you give a monkey a gun and he shoots someone, can you blame the monkey?

That is my point in this thread exactly, the honor system is broken in this country because nobody has any. You have to have systems that are incapable fraud-proof because people are dishonest and have no shame.

Well I hope you are never in a position that you can't afford to buy groceries. It's easy for people to look down on others from their high horse when they haven't fallen on hard times.

I hope the same. Then again, perhaps it would give him some much-needed perspective, which couldn't hurt.

I have been in the position many times. I have been homeless, lived predominately out of a vehicle and slept on friends' couches. Granted this was all over a decade ago and it was short lived, was still difficult. I worked hard and worked my way out of it.

This is about a broken system. People who fall on hard times and persevere are better because of it. People who fall on hard times and are told to stay put- do very little and we will take care of you are going backwards.

Who is ever told this? And who do you fantasize is taking care of them? If you think we take care of our poor in this country, you're sadly mistaken.

Ok, what are your top 3 public assistance programs that we don't provide?
