Most of us here in Chicago know it has been red hot in many ways, but I didn't know it was the top New Year's Eve Destination!

I had no clue Chicago has been #1 for bookings for several years in a row. I love this city, but I never thought of it as a prime New Year's Eve spot - there are tons of options to be sure, yet there's no signature event such as the Times Square ball drop in NYC or the Rose Bowl festivities in LA.

Wow, Chicago? Atlanta? I'm really surprised Vegas or somewhere in Florida/New Orleans wouldn't be towards the top.

I normally go to Vegas or Europe for New Years, but I have to say Atlanta never really crossed my mind. I'd think people would complain about the Chicago weather...

This list is misleading. It's for discount travel only.

If you ever read the commentary boards on their Best Places to Live surveys, you would see they are usually off-base.

NB: Only squares go out on New Year's Eve.

Yeah, that's kind of misleading because so many Chicagoans/suburbanites do the hotel package deals on New Years, which is the sole criteria of this list. If this actually took into account which city attracted the most out-of-towners on New Years, I'm sure we'd fall down quite a few notches.

If this list really just reflects hotel bookings and doesn't take into account flights, I really hope the people staying in Newark, NJ understand what they're getting into.
