Not one bit. They're a lot more interested in a local address than a local phone number.

I've been meaning to change mine since I moved here. Especially because mine is 636 and I live out in the western burbs. Whenever i start to say it they accidentally put in 630 because that's what they expect me to say. I've had this number for like 6 years- kind of scary almost to part with it. Anyone else feel that way?

Yeah, like I said earlier - I know tons of people in Chicago who have area codes from thousands of miles away. I also know a lot of people around the country that still have 773 or 312 area codes.

People get use to their numbers, their friends know them already, and don't feel like changing/sending out a new # to everyone.

Cell phones really changed the use of area codes. I was in Arkansas a few weeks ago, and they'd have billboards and signs on cars, etc. that would just say "Call 354-5548" or something. My friend was laughing her ass off saying "you REALLY know we're in the middle of nowhere when they don't even put an area code on the ad"

I do miss the old days when 708 (all the burbs) first split from 312 (Chicago only). We had a saying, "We don't date 708"

Of course, I married one.

Then there's Goose Island's "312 Wheat" beer. I always figured they should call it "773 Wheat" at the Wrigleyville location.

I just picked me up a six-pack of Goose Island's Kilgubbin Red Ale. Good stuff. Maybe just a shade blow the old Brooklyn Pennant '55 Ale

Just so you know, the best Chicago-area brewery by far is Three Floyds.
