That's assuming your office downtown is near Union station....tack on another time sink additional commute if not.

Would not advise unless you think commuting is the best part of your day. Driving is just as much a pita and nearly as slow plus downtown parking rates.

Metra also sucks...and expensive ($10 each way) plus parking lot fees($2 a day). There is a monthly pass of $265...
Partially true. It's not terrible if you're closer to the train. I noticed that I had an old post in this thread. I was able to find a house near a Pace bus route that gets me door to door in 65 minutes. If I walk to the train it's 1.7 miles (I never walk), or an 8-10 minute bike ride. Biking saves you $2 daily on parking. My walk from Union to my office is 7-8 minutes, so it's not like I work across the street. Sure, if you live near 95th Street or something your commute will suck. There's some affordable areas not too far from downtown Naperville.

A monthly pass is $199.50 if you take the downtown Naperville train. If you take Pace to the train station and add the monthly Plus Bus it's an extra $30, so it's pretty expensive, but it's like that in any Metra Zone F.

Something like 1/3 of my coworkers are Indian and something like 1/2 of them live in Naperville and they all take the train. They seem fine with it. Some sleep on the train. Some work on the train. Some read or otherwise occupy their time on the train. In contrast to driving, at least on the train you can do things other than memorize the license plate of the car ahead of you. If you go with the federal cost estimates, and 60 mile (round-trip) drive would be putting over $30/day wear and tear and use and depreciation on your car, plus at LEAST $12/day parking. Viewed like that, ~$200/month for a Metra pass is very economical.

Where is the office? If downtown, you don't want to drive from out there.

I'm a bit out of the loop on commuting from Naperville but last I was the Naperville station had a 7 year wait for parking. You may want to find an apartment within walking distance of Rt 59 train station, Lisle also has some apartments by the train station. Four Lakes in lisle also has a morning shuttle to the train station.
