Hi all. My husband and I are considering a move to Chicago from a medium-sized city also in the midwest. He would be working near NE River Rd./Kennedy Expwy. We have two children ages 3 1/2 and 9 months and are seeking what I'm sure lots of people are seeking - safe neighborhood, less than 30 minute commute and "reasonable" housing ($250-$300 range). Is this even doable? Any neighborhood recommendations for young families with these qualifications? I look forward to any feedback, as we'll be booking a trip to visit with a real estate agent soon.

I'm going with a definite no on the $250-$300 dollar range.

Default Skokie

Although Skokie is a suburb just North of the city, we have a metra station that goes to the loop. Skokie is known for being a good place for kids to be raised. Lots of parks and good schools. There are a lot of expensive new developments but with the housing market what it is, you could probably find something within range.
