*Sigh*

Like I said, the incidents were as of July 2007, which is a measure since that time up to and including today, not a snapshot of that particular time. Plus, I like how you take the Logan Square murder rate and adjust it per-annum and use it as a numerator against the unadjusted 17-month rate for the city as a whole for the denominator. Nice try, but if you're going to annualize the numerator, then you need to annualize the denominator as well.

Default its not well described

here is a better description

if over 18 months there were 16 murders that is about 10 murders a year. (In fact, if you were to reduce it to past year I believe it is 10) Then if you take that and compare it to the average for a Chicago neighborhood of 26 murders as someone else calculated up thread, you get rougly 38% of the murders in Logan Square as the average Chicago neighborhood. Or roughly 1/3rd.

And to avengerfire, yes you are right there is some degree of sex crime here. I had not looked that up specifically so it's good to know.

Not to nitpick, but this thread is about Palmer Square - not all of Logan Square.

Palmer Square Criminal Sexual Assaults in 2008: 3 (one in a school, 2 in residences)

Palmer Square Sex Offenses in 2008: 3 (only one violent, in a residence)

Palmer Square is one of the safest parts of Logan Square and looking at crime stats that include areas a resident of Palmer Square will likely never visit isn't an accurate depiction of what the area is like.

However the "average" chicago neighborhood is purely imaginary.
The relevant point would be how the Logan square murder rate compares to adjacent neighborhhoods or other parts of town that are of actual interest for OP.
