I am sure native Chicagoans eat deep dish. But the pizza of choice is mostly thin crust. I enjoy deep dish every once and a while.

Visitor and I love Deep Dish Chicago pizza. Nothing better.
I've even ordered Girodano's through the mail because the "Chicago Deep Dish" I can get in Clevleand...ain't.

Native Chicagoland Suburbanite. Deep dish as an occasional treat, because it is more expensive and takes more time. Tavern-style (crispy thin crust, cut into squares) is the more frequent choice.

So many are on a diet like low Carbo and avoid deep dish. It goes a long way and seems messy. I don't know anyone who prefers it, or else buys frozen pizzas. Obviously, some Chicagoans like it because of all the restaurants that sell it. But not near me.

I've never understood why the veggie toppings on thin crust are stingy, scant.

Short answer:
Yes

More complete answer:
Yes, they do eat it, but it's far from an everyday thing. Chicagoans go out for deep dish pizza as a special-occasion treat, or when having dinner with out-of-town friends. Reason being that it's pricey, takes a long time to cook (and by extension, requires allocating a lot of time for dinner), and is very rich/unhealthy. So what do Chicagoans eat as an everyday pizza, like for a weeknight dinner out, or when ordering for a group while watching a sports game on TV? Tavern style. The crust is thin without being crispy like a cracker, the traditional topping is sausage (pepperoni is for kids and out-of-towners ), and it's almost always cut into squares, not slices/wedges. Why? A running joke says that Chicago cuts its pizza into squares to keep New Yorkers from calling it a "pie".

We do eat deep dish. I enjoy it very much but I try to avoid it on the regular. My wife and I eat pizza every Friday but we would never eat deep dish every time we do.

With that being said, it's a special treat every now and then. When I refer to Chicago style pizza I am referring to the tavern style pizza cut into squares with large sausage chunks and a good helping of cheese.
