We used to live in Chicago, but have been out of state for over a decade.

I have a 5-year-old now and want to show him some Christmas sights downtown. I'm assuming the "Marshall Fields" windows are still there and that great room with the tree inside the store, but what else is good these days?

Examples from my past life: The Hyatt Regency used to do up their atrium with an iceberg "North Pole" decor. The Drake used to deck itself out with a nice tree for tea. Science Museum used to have a tree display.

What's eye-popping and/or fun these days?

THANKS!

The Marshall Fields (Macy's) windows aren't worth it unless you want to elves dressed in hot pink. The Museum of Science and Industry still has its trees from around the world exhibit, and there is also a German-style Christmas Festival in Daley Plaza which is neat. My mom is taking my son to an indoor Holiday festival at Navy Pier this weekend too.

Second the Daley Plaza festival. It's a "Christkindlmarket" replicating what just about every German town does for the holiday season. My daughters really enjoyed it. See www.christkindlmarket.com

The lights along State and Michigan are nice, as is the ice skating in Millenium Park. Navy Pier has that gigantor indoor ice rink with TONS of Christmas decorations all over.

They sell clocks for $1,500 and $1,200. they were selling little rocks (pebbles) for $5 a piece...got be a place for rich wives to play during the day or for tourists to visit. that pic on the main page makes it look waaay better than it looks during the day. the best part of that market is watching all the pigeons huddles around the "eternal flame" for warmth. there's like 50 of them just chillin by the fire.

^Lol. They (pigeons) like to huddle under the heat lamps on the El platform too. There are a few people under there, and like 30 pigeons standing right next to them. I should take a picture.
