Do you know the cross streets? As everyone said Tri-Taylor is a pretty big area.

Closest intersection would be Ogden and Taylor.

Holy cow! I've never been down there, but I can easily see what you are talking about just with the satellite photos on Google Maps! It looks like an alien spaceship came and used some weapon that removes all the buildings and people but leaves everything else intact! Mega-creepy. I had no idea an area like that existed 2 mi from the city center.

Neither Tri Taylor nor Old Town are what you would call happening nightlife zones, so in either place you are pretty much married to the auto for late night stuff.

Old Town is a little more lively and a little more walkable. Tri Taylor is a little more residential and quiet. The Near West side restaurants are better, but Old Town is closer to the lake.

The places have different strengths and weaknesses, so you really can't go too far wrong with either. If you end up in Old Town, you will have a non-trivial (but doable) commute, which for me, would probably be the deal breaker, so my advice would be do a year in Tri-Taylor and see how it goes.

Other neighborhoods you may want to consider are West Town, University Village, and Pilsen.

Best of Luck.

There may be no buildings, but dammit, they've got parking meters!!! (I kid you not, the entire area is metered).

Regardless, the Illinois Medical District, which is what that place is called, has nothing to do with TriTaylor, which ends at Roosevelt.

haha they do have parking meters there. There was a fox news investigation about it. The city spent like 200k putting in all of those meters and didnt receive a dime of revenue in the first month.
