Really they are way over represented
The Duggers, The Gosslins, The folks on Little People Big World?
Several of the houses done on Extreme Makeover.
More than a few of the families on Wife Swap etc.
Theories please?

The majority of American Christians (or who call themselves that) are Fundies.

I think.

I don't know..would a democrat be considered a fundie? what about someone who uses birth control and wants no children? someone who isn't legalistic and is accepting of gay ppl? someone who uses the morning after pill? and the list goes on.

as far as the shows..these ppl are so extreme,it seems like a modern-day version of the circus.being so pulls in the ratings,it appears.ppl like a freak show nowadays to watch.it shows them just how normal they are, even if they do have a rather boring life.JMO.

I think the answer might be something to do with the corporate owned media and Rupert Murdock. That's my best guess. He's the one who spent millions in losses in order to put FOX News upon us. I prefer to call it FAUX News or FIX News.

FAUX news - LOVE iT.
But I think that there is a darker side to the whole thing.
I want to see if anyone comes up with anything close to my theory.
I am getting a bit sick of people having or adopting ridiculous amounts of kids when they cannot afford them. Or giving birth to them. Ratings sagging? Have another kid! Have 25! Some deranged network will pick up the show.
Right now in my town there is a family who is of modest means who adopted 18 kids.
Seven with Downe's syndrome.
They get ss for that.
And now ABC rewards them for this with an Extreme Makeover.
Is this like ..hmmm a form of corporate welfare?
I am very pro adoption BTW. I have both biological and adopted kids.
But not 17 of them.

Yeah, I don't get it with all the media-hype about having a ga-zillion kids. It doesn't make sense to me at all at a time when some estimate that 1 in 5 American children lives at or below the poverty level, we have a problem in America with rampant child porn and so many children starve to death around the globe each year. It's hard to understand, for sure. I have four children, mostly grown now, but I remember that seemed almost extreme back when I was of child-bearing age -- it was enough to draw attention and questions back when my kids were little. And one of them was "unplanned". I had thought I wanted 3 kids -- was not expecting no. 4 and made darn sure after he was born that it would not happen again for us.

yes,I recall those times when it was considered extreme.mine are 1 1/2 yrs apart and everyone was just gasping at the fact I got pregnant again so soon.Even the ob nurse in the Dr's office said a DON'T YOU KNOW ANY BETTER???!!!! (I do,but would you tell his li'l swimmers that???) LOL.
nowadays it's not unusual, although I don't have a whole gaggle of them and would never do a reality show even if I did.

When I define these families as "fundamentalist" it is not a put down nor is it a judgment call on my part.
There are many churches that proudly proclaim that they are "fundamentalist"
The Gosslins attended an Assembly of God Church
The Duggers are some form of independent Baptists that wear long skirts.
The Little people family ( I cannot for the life of me remember their names) attend an independent full gospel church and send their kids to a Christian school.

i also know that they have or had a pastor who made a point of preaching a lot against homosexuality.

I am STILL curious about why so many fundamentalist born again Christians would submit to this type of dog and pony show?
