Maybe "tolerate" or "not hate" is a better word.

One acquaintance of mine, who is either atheist or agnostic, likes to say "God loves you, doesn't mean I have to." It sounds convenient and brings about a chuckle.

I think that "loving" someone who will keep on hating you is probably the BIGGEST challenge Christians have. I can honestly say I have NEVER met a Christian who I perceive can pull this off with a score of 100.

I have a Question that is sort of related to the topic:

Has anyone here (perhaps in childhood) ever vowed in their heart to hold a grudge when they were hurt by someone and then felt frustrated by an inability to keep holding a grudge? I just need to know if anyone here can relate to that.

Thanks.

Great thread, pcamps. I do think I've allowed my heart to grow cold at times, especially in our polarized society. I don't recall feeling so challenged in that way before our nation was divided after 9/11/01.

Isn't "loving your enemy" the same as "heaping coals of fire on his head?" Seems to me there's a link there somewhere...

Nothing as beautiful as hell! The place where love displays its power best!

That's why I believe that all mankind will be saved. Some through the fire... Will we lend a helping hand to "love the unlovable?" Will we be Christ to others?

Blessings,
brian
