that's a confusing part of the bible.
Was he caught up in the heavens?
Same with Elijah.
What about the scripture that's says "No man has seen God and lived"?
Have you not read "The Book of Enoch" ?
He can tell you himself, through his own words.
He was the first one to overcome death. After receiving instruction from God, he returned to earth and taught his city the things of God. The whole city was then taken up and perfected (this is called Transfiguration).
Moses and Elijah were with Jesus when He was transfigured.
Our Calendars and knowledge of the Solar system are based on Enoch's teachings, as well as the art of overcoming sin.
The Book of Enoch was never taken out of the Ethiopian Bible.
You can get a copy on Amazon. Happy reading. Let the Spirit be your guide.

He was taken to heaven without having to experience death
Heb 11:5 By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.

MT 5:8 "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." Because Christ takes away sin we can now "see" God. When you see Gods Glory [ the beauty of character] the self [identification with just physical life] dies and you become a new person in Christ so as to "see" God forever. In your life now and in the life to come.
So the thief on the cross next to Jesus did not go to Paradise that day?
Or he's just sleeping in Paradise, so he doesn't know he's there yet.
He is with the Lord. Paul also said on several occations, that he would rather be dead and with the Lord, than down here on earth. He knew he was going to heaven as soon as he died.
And so did Stephen, the brother of Jesus. With his last breath he said “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” Young Paul (Saul) watched as they murdered Stephen.
Acts 7 But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”
At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul. While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.
Concerning Enoch and Elijah, the writer of Hebrews had this to say:
Heb 11:13 In faith died all these, not being requited with the promises,
but perceiving them ahead and saluting them, and avowing that they
are strangers and expatriates on the earth. "
The theif on the cross did not go to paradise the day he died and neither did Jesus. Jesus went to the tomb and for three days was DEAD in the tomb. He was not off somewhere in paradise playing checkers with the thief.
