To act in love(love is a verb) is to do things that are beneficial to others that are within the will of God. The Ten Commandments give us a good outline, since the goal of the law is love.

its letting go of self entirely and seeing safety, harmony & well being in caring for others as the only reality.
but if you go crazy on this stuff, you are codependent and need counseling and 12 step asap.

Its quite obvious to me, which is why I think the approach taken by the OP and many pastors is flawed or at least incomplete. However, if the Godfather is your landlord and you owe him money (or your existance), a threat or consequence makes a little more sense. The fairness of what that threat or consequence entails is another issue Whatever it is, calling it a natural consequence that God is trying to win you away from is still logically flawed since God put that "natural consequence" there to begin with.
