Can anyone suggest an appropriate verse to go with a handwashing rule for children? Every time I think I've come up with one, the preceding passages don't really fit the bill and I'm not sure if that matters or not...I suppose it would. I was never very good at this sort of thing.

I just did a quick search for "wash"

Exodus 30:19
For Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet thereat:

Exodus 40:12
And thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and wash them with water.

Exodus 40:32
When they went into the tent of the congregation, and when they came near unto the altar, they washed; as the LORD commanded Moses.

Psalm 51:7
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Psalm 26:6
I will wash mine hands in innocency: so will I compass thine altar, O LORD:

Isaiah 1:16
Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; <<< this one could work good for the kids.

John 13:14

Thanks. I orginally picked Psalm 51:7 before I posted...but isn't the entire passage about David who committed adultery? Is it OK to just use the one verse even if it is part of something that takes on a different meaning?

I also had Isaiah 1:16

Eph 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
Eph 6:2 "Honor your father and mother" (this is the first commandment with a promise),
Eph 6:3 "that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land."


If you tell them to wash their hands, they need to obey. It's what God wants.
