Do you think gambling is sinful for a Christian? (preacher, Baptist, God)

It's been a LOOOOONNNNGGGG time since I've attended a Catholic church, and to be honest, I wouldn't know the Catholic Church's stance on this, but if they preach against gambling yet accept money earned by it isn't that a double standard? Just curious, but I suppose that goes out to all the churches. I really don't know what the Catholic Church's opinion is on this, I'm just musing right now.
Well in theory gambling falls under social justice which is tied to the seventh commandment...you can look it up. But my take on it is what is in your heart if you do it. If it's a friendly game of poker or a casino who's business is gambling that's just entertainment. If it's someone who makes a living by cheating people out of their money (like the cup and card gamers on the streets in NYC) then it's probably against society as a whole. But in practice the church obviously doesn't consider it a sin if it's not done to excess and they will take any money you want to give...they don't ask where it came from. In practice they still do bingo, raffles, and wheel of chance as part of fundraisers at events and such. Again I just think it's what's in your heart.
My church would accept the money. Why not? You don't look a gift horse in the mouth!
My pastor doesn't actively preach on the evils of gambling. It's one of those "personal judgement call" issues. You can do it, but you need to know the dangers. If you can't afford it, then you shouldn't be doing it. He would leave it up to the individual to make the decision on whether they should gamble or not. I don't think the money is tainted just because it was won in a game.
btw: I don't think God would help anyone win the lottery any more than he helped my Cowboys beat the Patriots this week.
Hey - my wife's folks live in MS and we're usually there several weeks out of the year.. I'm guessing 2-3 hours from Tunica.. now we just need to figure out where GCSTroop lives, and we can all meet!!... I'd prefer to stick with fishing, (which is not unlike "gambling" in a sense)!
I'm with kaykay on this..something about a casino just doesn't seem like a place for me. Also, I know that if I got into gambling, it wouldn't be pretty. - I tend to take too many long chances.
lol its a small world after all..its a small world....Well I didnt mention the fact that drinks are free in a casino..so lets just say I try to keep temptation as far away as possible....Im an hour from Memphis..and I think an hour from Memphis to Tunica..Ai-angel is not far from there..

If God were in the football business..I think he would give the Razorbacks a quarterback..that could throw something besides an interception
Let me add a thought to the continuing discussion... Lets substitute sex for gambling: sex isn't sin, inside of marriage, and moderation has very little to do with being a sin or not. Moderation is a subjective thought, and allows a shift in authority from God, to man. I'm not comfortable with that.
I do enjoy a glass of wine, but I also very aware of my "witness", especially if others are watching, and the same with gambling. Example... if I was at a slot machine and I won... and yelled out very excitedly about my winning... my jubilation may in fact cause some one to "stumble". Even sitting there, sends a message, so I'm not comfortable with gambling. Jesus told us/me that I will be held accountable for that... and if that someone was a "young " person or a child and it caused them to sin, I believe there is a millstone in my future!
I understand the concept of moderation, but I'm not sure if you could put scripture around the concept.
