I was brought up in the Southern Baptist Church to believe it is wrong. But it was really no big deal, because we only went to Vegas on a familiy vacation back in '68 (glad I saw it then when Caesar's was out in the dirt by itself).
My aunt however, wouldn't allow, cards, dominos or anything. She barely tolerated board games. I don't think she actually knew we played Monopoly.
I may go to Vegas or gamble once, twice maybe three times per year. We also have a horse track here in Dallas. But I limit myself to $100 a day in Vegas and only place $2 bets on horses. To me it just gets old and I hate to lose money. I never bet on football or any other game. The only time I really have fun gambling is playing roulette, having a couple of drinks and meeting and talking to the people at the table.
To me gambling can hurt other people whereas two people in love does not. Why aren't the fundamentalists railing against Vegas instead of human beings?
I don't think gambling is bad. I don't generally do it because I'm not very good at it.. not because what others will think. However, while in Vegas I've pulled the arm quite a few times. It was fun but not so much fun I'd want to do it every day. I lost money.. but I lose money going to the movies too. I figure I just paid for the fun of it.
The whole "moderation" topic is tricky.. I mean moderation to one person could be sinful to another... so don't judge others and don't let yourself be judged by others.
If any preacher says it's sin... he's speaking beyond his authority. No place in scripture does it say "do not gamble"... but to show the depravity of the act...... the Roman soldiers gambled for Jesus's clothes, at the foot of the cross, while our Savior died for us.
and Forest Gump said... "that's all I have to say about that".
If God were in the football business..I think he would give the Razorbacks a quarterback..that could throw something besides an interception
Hour from Memphis huh? Perhaps we could go fishing sometime after all... I'm about 10-15 min south of Memphis myself and about 20 min from Tunica. Maybe we could go fishing and gambling in the same day!
