Why the need for a certian church to be the right one? Your salvation does not come from the church, if you believe this then please give the verse in the bible that clearly supports this. It was never the church that died for you on the cross. Why can you not find out for yourself what the bible says and requires of you? Why should you rely on man, who just like you is learning what to do and not to? Why? Why? Why? We have His Word and Spirit to guide us as He says in HIS Word. We need to sort our priorities, the church is not here to play God, it has its place. And should we find ourselves in a position where have compromised His Truth, all because the church demanded so, then we have only ourselves to blame - we were to lazy to seek the Truth that is in His Word, and relied on man. Sorry if I am too strong.

Unless one of your mother's marriages was performed, blessed or sanctioned by the Catholic Church, the marriages aren't recognized by the Church, so they may not need to be annulled.
Or at least not all of them.
I know it sounds strange, but unless the Church sanctions a marriage, then it doesn't offically exist.
And to be sanctioned, the parties had to apply for it to be recognized in the first place. It's like asking the parents for permission to get married. Permission is usually always given, it's just that when someone is marrying a non-Catholic, there's a need to understand the implications for the Catholic party, any children and the Church's position.

The reason they split had to do basically with irreconcilable differences, and the fact that my mom simply wasn't happy anymore.

Then in 1994 (I think), she married a man she met in Arizona. In 1997, they were divorced, with domestic violence cited as the reason.

Then, in 2003 she married her current husband.

So she's currently married. Does that change anything?
Sorry I misunderstood...but it doesn't necessarily change anything if the first two marriages are out of the church.

The first Marriage doesn't count because it wasn't done in the Catholic church. If the second marriage was performed in the Catholic church she would need to annul that one only...but if it wasn't in the Catholic church then it doesn't count either and the current one would be fine since the other two don't count. Ok now we are all confused I bet.
