Man often has a hard time forgiving except for the smallest wrongs by others.
Repentance means change your mind. The goodness of God causes people to repent. We cannot on our own efforts repent, neither through confession or any religious practice. Repentance is a fruit of seeing and believing in the goodness of God.

The English is as emphatic about regret as the Greek. and change. Don't be simplistic:

repent (v.) Look up repent at Dictionary.com
c.1300, "to feel such regret for sins or crimes as produces amendment of life," from Old French repentir (11c.), from re-, here probably an intensive prefix (see re-), + Vulgar Latin *penitire "to regret," from Latin poenitire "make sorry," from poena (see penal). The distinction between regret (q.v.) and repent is made in many modern languages, but the differentiation is not present in older periods. Related: Repented; repenting.

The only sin left is not believing in Jesus. The Holy Spirit does not convict the believer of sin. John 16 says He convicts unbelievers of sin because they do not believe in Jesus.

Believers are the righteousness of God.

Believing in Jesus by definition is believing in the Way that He said He IS. Doing things contrary to that Way is "missing the mark," and "Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin." James 4:17 When we commit to a life in Christ we may still "miss the mark" and the Spirit will convict us of that so that we can see our error and resolve to do better in our continuing relationship with the Lord.

Basic stuff not polluted with doctrines of men.

Sorry, but there's nowhere in the Bible where it says the Holy Spirit convicts believers of sin. You can try to read things into scriptures but that's where you get false doctrine. People use John 16 all the time to say he convicts us of sin, but the text is clear. It's for people who don't believe in Jesus.

Jesus took are of the sin problem. There are numerous scriptures for that.

Indeed he has: 1My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;2and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. 1John 2

That doesn't say the Holy Spirit convicts believers of sin. There is no scripture that says He does.

It is part op the sanctification process. You do believe in sanctification? "But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you as firstfruits to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth."2thess 2:13

Language is not determined by simplistic definitions in a dictionary. That's why the better definitions give examples of usage and point out nuances that are not simple.
