Honestly, I'm trying to still figure you non-Catholic Christians out. It appears that many of you deny that Jesus founded a Church. That's fine, but please explain why you believe such.
The rest of you .. all are welcome to answer my question, however please be specific.
It's lights out for me. I'll touch base with you tomorrow. It's a busy wkend, but I'll do my best. God Bless!
August 23, 97 C.E. The pastor of the Church of Smyrna declared that what you believe about God is more important than how you live your faith and it was all down hill from there.
A better question would be when did the original churches (plural) disappear, because prior to the First Council of Nicaea in 325 CE, the initial Jewish followers of Jesus had spread to across the middle east and even to Rome itself. With the "conversion" of Paul of Tarsus, new sects of Gentiles were being formed who did not observe the religious traditions of the original followers of Jesus. Of course these sects were subsumed by "The Church" following the Council of Nicaea under the authority of the Emperor Constantine, the Council established who was a Christian and who was heretical. So, to answer the corrected question, when Emperor Theodosius elevated the Bishop of Rome as the head of all Christians.
PS - I rattled this off from memory so whether it was Emperor Theodosius or an other I may need to make a correction.
Ok, kidding aside. Your basic premise is WAY off base. There WAS no "church" as you think of a central organizqation. Each location that had a meeting of Christians was the local church. Do us a favor and see how many references you can find to the "Churches (plural) of Christ."

There was ALWAYS a central church and all the other churches listened to the Pope for authority.
