The Sermon on the Mount makes it so that if we take it in isolation, it seems to be advocating pacifism when Jesus says "turn the other cheek" in Matthew 5. I've heard some Christians say that if someone breaks into their house, they should just let them take whatever they want because "it's not theirs".

But I think if we Christians followed a pacifist model, the world would be very chaotic and evil would reign. What are your thoughts? For example, what if people "turned the other cheek" to sadists like Hitler?

"Turn the other chhek" is for individual interactions, not nation vs. nation. That being said, war should be a last resort.

See there are many liberals Americans who despise America for going to War against people who brought the twin towers down in New York , and some Americans even despise America back in 1940s for going to War in WW2, and here we have a similar threat to some of our Friends in Iraq and these nations who have this isis which use the similar threat like hitler did .......................Who has displaced thousands of Christians and even murdered thousands of Christians , and all Jesus can do in this state of fear is to collect their souls , and get some to move to different locations so they can live ..................See Jesus can only help people if there is No fear , as fear will block all faith in God .................... See If Christians need to go to war to freedom than that is what they are to do , but making a occupation of fighting war may not be in the best God may have for His people , but if His people do pray and resist all fear God will bring His people back home after a war alive ........ See God does hate war as it will destroy many people lives and continue to tear many people lives for years after the war and God know it

So if someone was murdering a relative of yours would you hand over another one, too?

Remember: there is a BIG difference between self defense [& giving life for another if need be ] and warfare.

That's why I was asking HIM that.

Do you think going after the Nazis was justified?

First of all, Jesus is Not a pacifist. However, that does Not mean we are to be involved in the affairs of the world.
Remember: Jesus and his 1st-century followers were neutral in the world's affairs.
They did Not become involved in the political issues of day even issues between the Jews and the Romans.
Jesus ran away from accepting political office [ king on earth ] according to John 6 v 15. [ John 17 vs 14,16 ]

World rulers [ kings ] do Not look to Jesus as their ruling king/ruler even though Scripture teaches that Jesus is a real king or ruler. Jesus is God's ' Commander in Chief ' [ Hail to the Chief ! ] who will involve himself into mankind's affairs before evil would reign by eliminating the wicked off the face of the earth - Isaiah 11 vs 3,4; Revelation 19 vs 11,15.

In the meantime, Christians can defend life [ theirs and another's ] but Not risk life for the sake of material possessions.

If pacifism includes making a scourge, whipping people, turning over tables and running wicked, ungodly people out of buildings, then yes, we should be pacifists. But I don't think that fits definition of pacifism. And neither does the bible.

Just because we are 'not of the world' does not mean are not to be involved in the world. If we are not to be involved with the world, then our obligation to social welfare only extends to those who citizens of heaven, those who are part of the body of Christ. But there is no biblical support for that kind of thinking.

As to Jesus '[running] away from accepting political office' it was because it was not his time to become king. Not that he didn't want to be King. He will accept the throne of his father David and rule from Jerusalem, but it will be at the Father's timing, not man's.

There is no scripture that forbids military service, period. 'nuf said.

Blessings,

Matthew

Remember there is No Christian nation nor any Christian army.
Christians are No part of the world [ as Jesus was No part of the political world ] - John 17 vs 14-16

God only dealt with one literal nation on earth and that one country was only the nation of ancient Israel.
[ Israel today exists as a national group and Not God's holy nation ]
Under Christ Christians are a ' spiritual ' nation. That means Christians live in ALL nations or countries of earth.
They have No borders or boundaries found on any map - 1st Peter 2 vs 9,5
The Christian's job [ spiritual work ] is to proclaims God's kingdom as the solution to mankind's problems.
Jesus forewarned us there would be bad global or world conditions before the start of Jesus 1000-year kingdom reign over earth - Matthew chapter 24 and Luke chapter 21.
If all the Christians alive on earth during WWII were to have formed a literal army they could Not have defeated Hitler.
Christians are few in comparison to earth's population - Matthew chapter 7

As far as the secular world, some wonder why it took so long for the worldly elements to act against Hitler.
