Religion is a threat to America. Christians today do not follow their leader. When they follow Matthew 5,6 and 7 Luke 6, I'll be happy to listen to Thiessen. Modern day Pharisees.
No it's not. Atheism is a threat, far greater. It keeps the morality of law without understanding that the point of Jesus was not to follow the law, but salvation from the law. The fundies don't get this, neither does Hillary, she believes in irredeemable people, that someone who does what she feels is unethical needs to be put down or something. But Jesus teaches that nobody is irredeemable.
Atheist tend to have a much more accurate view of themselves. That alone makes working together with the average Atheist easier. A great number of Christians view themselves as "righteous" while their actions are anything but. Some of the most vile, angry, and hateful people out there also believe they are "saved" and "forgiven" by Christ. This election cycle is exposing countless "good" Christian people just like this.
I've said this before and I stand by it. Atheists aren't running people away from Christianity in America. Christians are.

OP is right.
Jesus never set up a church to govern a country, the point of the Gospel is the community of believers and how we relate to the world (in but not of). Don't try to make Jesus' perception of love over law apply to the government of a nation.
For anything to be considered "bigotry" the attitudes have to be without merit.
