Few people are strong enough to break the cycle. Few fundamentalists want to break the cycle. They've convinced themselves violent behavior towards children is acceptable.
Because it seems that you are making up facts to support your arguments in this topic.
I have made up nothing. You are mistaken. You're a troublemaker and "bomb-thrower". If you want to discuss the subject at hand, fine. Otherwise, I will ignore you.
Once again - YAWN - we see the Cartoon Christianity straw man being attacked. Yes, the Bible unquestionably teaches corporeal punishment. Yes, trendy psychologists counsel against - or would even outlaw - any and all corporeal punishment. Yes, there is a conflict there. I choose to place my confidence in the wisdom of the Bible.
Yes, some parents, Christian and non-Christian alike, are emotionally disturbed or even sadistic and inflict completely inappropriate and counterproductive corporeal punishment on their children. They do not do this because they are Christians or because this is what the Bible teaches. Indeed, one would hope that Christian beliefs and participation in the Christian community would tend to ameliorate any sadistic tendencies.
But - YAWN - once again we see the same cast of airheads setting up the Cartoon Christianity straw man and attempting to suggest some direct correlation between the Biblical teaching on corporeal punishment and child abuse. I worked in two County Attorney's offices for almost 20 years; I saw heartbreaking cases of abuse that left children blind and worse. Never, ever did I hear of a parent attempting to explain or justify the abuse on biblical or religious grounds.
One would hope that the readers of this forum can see the Cartoon Christianity game being played for what - YAWN - it is.
Proverbs 13:24
Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them.
This is saying that parents who love their children will guide, lead, and correct them.
It says nothing about beating, hitting or spanking them with your hand or paddle.
And no one should pay the discounted price of two hundred and fifty dollars for ignorance.
Few people are strong enough to break the cycle. Few fundamentalists want to break the cycle. They've convinced themselves violent behavior towards children is acceptable.
It is the easy and lazy solution to frustrating childhood behavior. If the dangerous behavior is imminent and could result in immediate harm to the child, a swift smack on the behind to get the child's attention and prevent the harm might be understandable. But if there is time to intercede and attempt to explain to the child in age-appropriate terms why the behavior is not allowed, then violence is not justified.

If, they are in imminent danger, move them or the element of harm out of the way.
Then, explain to them the reasoning behind it. It doesn't take hitting them first.
