I used to go to a Catholic bookstore attached to St. Peter's Church in lower Manhattan on occasion with a Catholic friend. They had some interesting books and sold nice cards and gifts.
I was surprised to see a shelf there with Billy Graham's books, but I later learned that he would tell people at his crusades that if they were Catholic, to go speak with their priest, and not try to persuade people that his denomination was the "right" one. He earned the respect of the RCC for that.
Billy was the only preacher I enjoyed listening to. Back in the 1970s I would tune in his Sunday evening radio broadcast.
Mr. Graham was one of a kind. He never enriched himself, having a set salary set by his foundation. I was pleased to hear that he died at his home; I believe he moved in to that house in the 1940s.
Billy Graham was a great man of God. I'm sure he received a rich welcome into heaven.
2 Peter 1:10 Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; 11] for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.
'Well done, good and faithful servant!'' Matthew 25:21
“A real Christian is a person who can give his pet parrot to the town gossip.” - Billy Graham
Sad news today informs us that Billy Graham, an American evangelist who served the world for four decades, has died at the age of 99.
For most of my life his unique speaking style broadcast the message of God’s plan of redemption to America and the global community. Graham was a very visible and special part of the culture of America in the last half of the twentieth century. Everyone knew who he was and what America was all about.
That was then and this is now.
America today has changed so radically it's literally a different country - virtually unrecognizable from the culture and nation that existed in the days of Graham’s mass crusades and public gospel preaching.
An incident I experienced today places current American culture in perfect perspective.
I went to our local grocery store to purchase a few items. When I went through the check out counter I told the people working there that Billy Graham had died. Their answer was surprising to me, but completely in line with the nation we have become.
He was 99 years old NOT 1999 when I initially titled it but he had a great life
