What surprises me is how many are saying they are praying to God to have the Holy Spirit guide them, and yet they are all coming up with differant doctrines!!!
The Holy Spirit has given us all things that pretain to life and godliness ( it is recorded in the book we call the Bible), and yet you do not believe it, and are praying for more.
Jesus condemned those who were seeking for a sign. Mankind is still seeking for a sign. I prefer to search the scriptures, as I believe that they are the final word of God. There will be no more.
It is fine to ask God to help you understand the bible...we are to get understanding, and with it, we are to get wisdom. Wisdom is the proper use of understanding.
Marian, I am wondering what is your opinion of the Holy Spirit? Does he play a role in your prayers to God? Does he play a role in your bible study? Do you believe He is part of the triune nature of God? Do you think he has a role in your worship? If we know what you believe, maybe some of the more knowledgeable and bible scholarly here can discuss your thread better
I have answered your question, but you chose to ignore it. If you have a question, you go to the word of God. The inspired word. It contains all things that pretain to life and godliness. What else do you need ? Why can't you accept that ?
Are you expecting to get an answer from with yourself ? Or are you expecting to hear a literal voice speaking to you? Or is it a 'feeling' that you are searching for?
My dear marian.....
I understand you are having a hard time accepting others have a different relationship with Jesus than you do......
the whole Praying to the Holy Spirit....if he indeed is part of the trinity there really is no problem ( unless you dont believe in that)
try not to come across....'holier than thou'.....
we are all the BODY OF CHRIST......
p.s I was not asking you a question....simply pointing out that if the HS is my teacher....do we not ask our teacher questions????
also it seems you assume anyone who speaks/listens to the HS will reciever something contrary to scripture...again if the HS is part of the trinity.that cannot be..correct??
like you cant accept that the HS will guide us into all truth ... is not that limiting God?

The Holy Spirit DID guide us into all truth. It is recorded in the bible. Once something has been given it does not need to be given over and over.

No book or group of books could contain ALL truth?
There are truths that can not be spoken or written, they are higher than what the bible can contain.
ALL truth is only given by the Holy Ghost.
Jhn 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
Marian, if one believes the bible (all the bible) is the inspired word of God then one also has to believe that it speaks to us today just as it did to those in the past
All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Tim.3:16
Blue, you have this right, but the only way the word of God "speaks to us" is when we read it,believe it, and abide in it.
In answer to your questions from this morning...I believe all that the scriptures say about the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
I believe that the Spirit helps us in our prayers, but I do not beleve it is something we can know or understand other than by faith. That is what faith is....believing in something even if you cannot see or hear it.
" Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." (Hebrews 11.1 NKJV)
" For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees?
But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannotbeuttered."
Thanks Marian, I believe we are all pretty much on the same page after all..I agree that none of us have the capacity to understand the things of the spirit, that is why we rely on our faith~Hugs~

Whew !!! Thankyou ! And hugs right back at ya....
Also, think you so much for the follow-up on my other thread. ( And thanks to anyone else who goes along with my 'plan'. )
I didn't post on it because I want to continue with just the scriptures...then we can discuss them.
