I trust Jesus words that the Holy Spirit will teach me...Therefore I see nothing sinful in asking for His guidance in anything I want to learn..

I don't see why anyone who believes in the trinity has a problem asking the Holy Spirit to guide them..Don't you claim that God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit are one and the same with different duties? The Holy Spirit being the intercessor among other things?

If a person believes that there has to be a bible verse for each and everything they practice or believe, then I fear that person may never find real peace..
Do you think this verse is directed towards us now also ?
1st John1.That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our own eyes, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life--
verse 2 the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us--

As for your next to the last statement and question... I believe that God the Father, Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit are all 3 members of the Godhead, i.e., that which is divine; Divinity; Deity, or "Divine nature " , (Acts 17.29 NJKV), ( Romans 1.20 NKJV), ( Col. 2.9 NKJV)

Truly God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost are all One.

What do you make of these verses, where we are to be One with them?

Jhn 17:11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we [are].

Jhn 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, [art] in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

Jhn 17:22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

Our loving Father puts no limits on our walk, only we do that.

godspeed,

freedom

I would really like to know, because it seems to me that this belief is putting the Spirit ahead of Christ. I find no place where the Spirit suffered and died for our sins, or was resurrected so that we may have eternal life. I find no scripture that says the Spirit is to be worshipped, but it seems that is what is being done by those with this belief.
Naturally the Spirit is very important, but not to be exalted above Christ !
I know it can be hard to hear and understand. Yes, the Spirit suffered right along with Christ and Father. Can you not see they are One? Do you not think that God suffers when YOU suffer as His Child? Or that Christ doesn't feel saddened by the wrongs we do to others? We believers are joint Heirs with Christ crying Abba Father. Are you saddened when your child wrongs others, or you?

I don't belong to a "group". I don't believe in anything outside of the Body of Christ revealed. The early teachers of the faith have long since died, and the message has been tarnished throughout the ages. How many millions have died in the name of "***". Fill in the blank, and some of these "groups" have been alone responsible for millions of deaths. So, no. I trust no man, and rely on the Spirit for guidance. You can hear Truth when it is told verbally. Our "church" is when 2 or more are in His Name. Nothing "traditional", because some traditions are not really sound.

The Spirit moves about in It's own way. Like wind. So beautiful, and remarkable. But with Power that comes from the Holy Spirit, and the days of forsaking ALL to follow Christ, I believe the Spirit doesn't reside in anyone too long manifesting that Power. Some maybe, but not all believers. Think of it like water. Living Water. It will nourish you, sustain you, and give you needed Life. But if one person held the Water for too long, they would then fall into temptation to profit from it. Kinda like Simon the magician in Acts 8:9. He was a believer, but when it was seen the Power the Spirit brought, immediately he thought of ways to buy it. So he could be the "man" who laid his own hands on people to receive the Spirit. Look at those today who "claim" to have it and heal with it.

I have personally seen the Spirit work in my life. I have seen passages in the bible glow with a yellowish glow, and when I read them, not in any order, they became alive and remarkable. But the peace of heart, and serenity of my spirit, was seen at first awakening from sleep. I was praying and asking God for guidance, and then read His Word.

Here's an example of an excerpt from a prayer I might pray prior to reading my Bible:

Father God, as I come to your Word I pray for wisdom, discernment, and understanding and that you would use your Holy Spirit to lead me to what you'd have me glean from it today. I pray that you would speak to me, correct me, and encourage me through your Word and that I would be sensitive to the Spirit's prompting me on the application of it to my life. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

That's all I am talking about Marian. I hope that clears some of that up.

Now may I ask you what role the Holy Spirit plays in your Christian walk and life?

Alpha, I surely hope the Spirit is playing the same role in my life as He does in all Christians's lives. I do not believe I would be here now...either in this life, or on this keyboard defending the faith, if the Spirit of God was not in me and with me.
I will admit, the 'holiness' religion has subdued 'us' when it comes to loudly proclaiming our belief in the Holy Spirit, but it does not mean 'we' do not believe in Him. I have lived around the members of the 'holy-roller' religion, and have seen very little godliness in many of them, other than lip service !!!!
I belive a person's manner of life speaks much louder than always mouthing words !
I am sorry if I have offended any who are of those religions... but I am not alone in feeling this way.

BTW, I like your sample prayer.

Marian, if one believes the bible (all the bible) is the inspired word of God then one also has to believe that it speaks to us today just as it did to those in the past

All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Tim.3:16

How about the word " recieve" ?

I still have seen no scripture that plainly states that we are to pray for the Spirit to guide us in our study of God's word.
John 14:26
"But the Counsellr, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you"NIV

"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring allt hing to your rememberance, whatsoever I have said to you."KJV

If the Holy Spirit is to teach me.....
what do I do if I have a question???

Ask Him.

Pray to God and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you.....
If u truely pray with an open heart searching God...He will reveal Himself.

I like to pray before I begin to read, or before I do bible study...
when I do- I know (cant describe) God (Trinity) is guiding me in what to read or how it will 'flow'. I may have a few things in mind, but God may direct me elsewhere....
Yes I search the Scriptures as well...
I think they (praying to HS and searching scripture) both work well hand in hand.
one kinda potentiates the other ...like a catalyst....

I have answered your question, but you chose to ignore it. If you have a question, you go to the word of God. The inspired word. It contains all things that pretain to life and godliness. What else do you need ? Why can't you accept that ?
Are you expecting to get an answer from with yourself ? Or are you expecting to hear a literal voice speaking to you? Or is it a 'feeling' that you are searching for?
