I dont believe defending yourself is repaying

When you are committing vengeance then you are repaying back what happened to you.

Jesus did however tell us we should buy weapons to defend ourselves.
Not to go on the offense...but at least to defend ourselves.

This why i believe in gun rights!

Hi renriq02,

Peter did have a sword didn't he. Jesus did not say where did you get that? Hew knew that had two which was "enough". I think if I saw someone ready to murder another I would intervene as well. I would really rather be as passive as possible though.

That was on the offense not defense.

Jesus said we should buy weapons.

First of all, I am a Christian and I have an interest in the future (specifically end-times stuff). I know many debate whether believers will be raptured before/ after/ or during the tribulation and I think its best to hope for the best and prepare for the worst. My question is if the tribulation starts obviously taking place, should Christians fight back or go like lambs to the slaughter? Of course Christ wins in the long run but Christians won't be able to overcome evil until God steps in, so in the meantime what should our actions be if this were to happen?

If you have any scripture to back up your opinion I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
Fight back? My survival instinct would tend to lean this way, especially when my family comes into the picture... but i know it would not be the best decision, though not the worst....

I hope to be in a place like Enoch, where the mountains obeyed his command and closed the valley in, so those that would do him and his city harm were not able to cross.

It's an Aikido type of offense... defend without harm...

My Irish worldly genetics at this point in my walk would load my weapon and take any that meant to do harm... though i feel it would be something i would regret and have need of much repentance.

I like Alpha's take on it.; sufficient is the evil of today... do everything we can to do the lords will each day, then we will be prepared for any day that we may be blessed with...for it is the lords day and not ours alone.

godspeed,

freedom

There are so many beliefs on the end times its really hard to say. I would say that as long as you don't accept any kind of national identification chip implants or any kind of tracking device, it won't be too difficult to get lost away from civilization before the crud hits the fan. Knowing basic survival skills will be a must though.

Concerning end time prophecy, the message to the believer from Revelation (of Jesus Christ - notice the real title ) is overcoming.

Who overcomes? Who's greater than the world? The One in you. The entire message and theme to the New Testament is not to live in the natural, soulish realm but to be crucified with Christ, and live by His life.

This includes rationalizing with natural reasoning - only the Spirit knows the things of the Spirit. (1 Cor 2:11)

I don't concern myself with "end times".

I try ( usaually unsuccessfully ) to stay in the "eternal now"

"Today" is the day of my salvation.

I used to study a lot about the end times. I still think it`s an interesting topic but I don`t worry about it too much anymore. I don`t think it`s gonna to happen the way the church teaches it..just like most things. It`s kind of ironic to me that as christians..we talk about how much we love God and want to be with the Lord..how we can`t wait to go home..etc. But when push comes to shove we do everything we can, spend every penny and every ounce of energy we have to keep it from happening. Don`t give a thought about tomorrow. What`s going to happen is going to happen...God already has it planned out..including when, how, and where you are going to die. There is nothing that can change that. When you finally get to that place in your life and walk with God..you come to realize he is in control. Chrisitians say all the time...I believe God`s in control..... but they don`t really live it. The end will work out the way God has it planned and if you suffer then glorify God for it. When you are suffering in this life that is when you know God is working in you and you should be rejoicing...just the exact opposite of what the church and prosperity peddlers teach. Just my opinion.

I myself am not afraid of dying, but I am afraid of HOW I am going to die. Most people die painful, agonizing deaths. The lucky few go quick and easy.

Ephesians 6 comes to mind
We have a sword to fight with [The word of God]
ALL CHRISTIANS ARE TO PUT ON SPIRITUAL ARMOUR AGAINST THE ENEMIES OF THEIR SOULS. (6:10-18)
—Matthew Henry Concise
10 Lastly, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his power. 11 Take up God's instruments of war, so that you may be able to keep your position against all the deceits of the Evil One. 12 For our fight is not against flesh and blood, but against authorities and powers, against the world-rulers of this dark night, against the spirits of evil in the heavens. 13 For this reason take up all the arms of God, so that you may be able to be strong in the evil day, and, having done all, to keep your place. 14 Take your place, then, having your body clothed with the true word, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 Be ready with the good news of peace as shoes on your feet; 16 And most of all, using faith as a cover to keep off all the flaming arrows of the Evil One. 17 And take salvation for your head-dress and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 With prayers and deep desires, making requests at all times in the Spirit, and keeping watch, with strong purpose, in prayer for all the saints,
Eph 6:10-18 (BBE)
Paul I believe was preparing us for the fight......
