1This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Anyone feel like discussing those verses? I'm particularly curious about whom is being referred to in verse 7. Are those who are "ever learning" the silly women, or are they the men being referenced in verse 2?
The women in the Ephesian church in verse 7 had had no formal religious training, and they enjoyed their new freedom to study Christian truths, but their eagerness to learn made them a target for false teachers. Paul warned Timothy to watch out for men who would take advantage of them.
And I agree with Carolina Guy these verses do sound like the time we are living in now.

Very true. Their hearts were probably in the right place, but in these cases your abilty to discern is weakened. And it surely does seem these could well be the end times. Greed and disregard for people are at an all-time high.

Good evening aquila, I believe that verse 7 is speaking of all of those who are named in verses 2 through 6...ever learning, and never able to come to the truth...are all those who's hearts are lifted up in pride...what they are all learning are the ways of the world instead of the ways of God, sticking to their own beliefs and ways that give them pleasures...worldly pleasures.

So what you're saying is that people (in general...maybe not ALL people) in the last days will be ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth...? Am I understanding you correctly?
(NET) 2 Tim 3:8 And just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these people – who have warped minds and are disqualified in the faith – also oppose the truth. 3:9 But they will not go much further, for their foolishness will be obvious to everyone, just like it was with Jannes and Jambres.
Remeber "The Secret"? = "these people" = just like Jannes and Jambres

...instead of God's...yes, your understanding of my reply is correct.

Okay, that's what I always thought it meant. But your reply is conflicting with what ILNC said. She said verse 7 refers to the silly women, whereas you are saying it refers to the men (people in general) of verse 2.
