That makes more sense than anything I`ve read on this thread so far.

What is man?

Where did man come from?

If you ask a scientist you get one answer...
ask a creationist you get a different answer...

Guess what, they dont know it yet, but they are in agreement....

ask the Creationist that question and he will start by telling you that "Man is made in the image of God"

He will go on to say that man did not get here via evolution,
that we are totally different than the animals, Blah, blah, blah....

Now ask a Scientest and you will hear him talk about the human family tree, how we came forth out of Africa, how we are closely relater to the apes, and how there is this huge amount of data to support evolution....

all the arguments one side has against the other side....are moot.

pin them down as to what Man is?...and you end up at the same place the other side ends at...

The Creationist will end up with the starting point of man as....'dust" of the earth itself.
That humans are a part of the earth that has come to life....and that when we die we return to what we came forth from...

Ask the scientist and you get about the same answer.
That we are made of the earth itself,
that we are a natural result of the earth over time,
that we are in fact part of the earth that has come to life.
And that when we die our bodies return to become part of the basic dirt that makes up the earth....

Enticing me to hijack the thread .. eh?

LOL nothing about this thread screams to me UR... But everytime I see the thread title, I think the thread is about "light" or revelation of some sort... but nope just light and dark according to Genesis.

I don't particularly take ANY stock in the literal interpretation of Genesis (the first five books, really) and here is why:

Because it was re-written approx. 3500 years (more by some sources) after the events took place. If you take it literally, then God also gave adam and eve pen and paper in their clothes before he kicked them out. Then, supposing they had pen and paper/whatever, they put it all together so that some men memorized one part, some were scholars of another portion.

THEN the original is torn to shreds (I would guess since Ezra had to rewrite it). So the books we have now, the Torah (the law) or the Pentateuch (the first five books) is not the original but snippets from learned men, Ezra's literary skills to put it all together, and whatever they could recover from the original.

It's very important to have but to pull from it that angels slept with men.... or that God created one thing this exact way... I just don't think that's warranted.
I don't think there will ever be an answer to the question of this thread so all opinions are going to be valid, which is why I read the posts in it.

The Book of Genesis is about as "Literal" as the Book of Revelation. If people haven't figured out by now that is symbolizes something else...they never will.
