Ehhhh... trying to be positive here... but it's hard to do. Jeep has been teasing the pickup as much as it's been teasing the diesel in front of us - and we're still waiting.
Don't get me wrong - I want to see a Jeep pickup. I've got 4 Jeeps now and one of them is a JK-8. Until Jeep actually tools up and launches the new model - I'll remain skeptical.
My prediction: If we see a Jeep pickup it'll be based on the next gen model - which will be released mid- to late '17 as an '18.
That would be my guess based on the info in the article. Has there been any leaks on the redesign?
Lots of blog talk about: The windshield will probably be fixed and have more rake. Supposedly a commitment to keeping ladder-on-frame and solid axles. Lots of talk about aluminum. Still the teases about diesel... but... actual drawings, no - purely speculative.
Most likely move the Cheokee to their Jefferson assembly plant in Detroit were they build the Grand Cherokee already.
I would guess it is likely to go to Belvidere, where the Dart, Compass, and Patroit are currently assembled. Cherokee shares the same platform which should make it easy to add to the line, and those products are not exactly causing a need for the plant to run a lot of overtime
Next easiest would be Sterling Heights, where the 200 is made, also due to common platform and components.
Jefferson North would likely need considerable retooling in comparison to Belvidere or Sterling Heights.

That would be nice to see sterling hgts get it, my buddy just retired from there a while back after getting his 30 yrs in. That plant use to belong to vw at one time. I grew up around that area and I worked at their warren truck assembly plant in the late 70's early 80's. I here the compass is being discountuded don't know how true that is.
