Anyone have experience with Dodge Journey? I hadn't given them much thought, but thought, hey, they don't look bad and looks like cargo space would be good. Mileage seems as good as a large sedan.
I'd love a Grand Caravan GT, or Town and Country Limited, but I feel like a Journey might be more appropriate for a 29 year old. It kind of looks like an SUV at least.
Looking at photos only thing I see so far I don't like is doesn't have the long overhead console with ambient lights in the back like the minivans can.
They have a terrible reputation for being unreliable and unrefined. That does mean you can probably steal one on the used market if it fits your needs though...
I don't normally endorse the views of Consumer Reports but this list was compiled by their users feedback and seems to reflect word on the street from what I have seen.
The question is are you going to be one of the 31%.
I replaced my Caliber with a 2018 Journey. 20K on it so far. It rides great, 29MPG (6 Cyl) on highway and 24 around town. No problems 1 recall for a computer update.
Crossroads version with leather seating, has more then enough bells and whistles. I have found that CR does not show how vehicles work out over time. It seems like with most items you get an over abundance of negatives.
I have an '11 2.4L / 7 seater with about 85k miles. Bought it new- this was the first year of the big Fiat update/refresh. No real mechanical problems yet, interior is holding up fine. I just follow the maintenance manual, nothing special. It runs through brake pads & tires a bit quicker than I'd like, but runs great otherwise. I'd like to keep it for a couple more years, and once it becomes a ticking time bomb unload it for a more modern, compact 5 seater that has the same interior cargo space like a CRV or Rav4.
My co-worker has a 2012 Journey and she has traveled all over the country with it. She hasn't had one problem
she says its the best car she's ever owned. Not sure if this is the norm or the exception.
Ours was mostly a city car to run the kids around but it had been all over TX/LA/OK until this year.
Earlier this year it has made the trip from Houston to Pittsburgh twice, and then Pittsburgh to Lake Erie, Niagara Falls, DC & Philly... never had a problem. Check engine light has never come on once in ownership. If it didn't chew up brakes & tires and require spark plugs every 2 years it'd be equivalent to a Toyota I've owned.

My wife's close friend has had several of these since year 1.
She reports the newer the better as some improvements have been made.
I do recall the first year or 2 they had brake problems, I was a Chrysler Dealer Service Manager from 1997 to 2009.
