Correction - ever hear of "road head"?
The main intersection in my neighborhood has no-left-turn signs on prominent display in all directions, but drivers thinking only of the seconds they'd lose by going to the next corner are constantly bottling up traffic by deciding they'll go ahead and make the illegal turn anyway. When the city's finest want to shoot fish in a barrel they park nearby and always have someone busted within minutes - to the delight of everybody on the sidewalks. The part I play in annoying the scofflaws is to saunter across the street they're trying to make the left onto. When I get yelled at I answer back that they shouldn't've turned in the first place, or that I was waiting for a cop car to roll up and catch 'em.
Who doesn't have a tale to tell about fights over a parking space? During my car-owning days, I once ad-libbed a retort to somebody who was mouthing off over the fact that I'd scored a spot just ahead of him. He was caught flat-footed and couldn't answer back - so I used the line many a time after that. What I said was, "Must be a nice life to have, when you can get all worked up over nothing."
Despite all the retirees and relocatees from Yankee territory, folks down South keep their manners even while driving. One time when visiting relatives in South Carolina, I was going rabid with hunger for some local BBQ. My parents picked me up at the airport. En route away from the parking lot, there was a backup at the pay window. A woman driver happened to be acquainted with the attendant, and he and she were yakking away. Untrue to my roots, I started griping that some horn honking needed to start. Then I mimicked the conversation I imagined was unfolding: "Ah saw her with that man in church last Sunday, uh huh! Mmmm hmmm! Ah'm tellin' you..." I was the one who got told to shut up. What are all of us in the Snow Belt always in a hurry for?

I would never argue with anyone over a parking space. When I lived in an apartment in Lexington--one that was in a relatively nice area when we moved in, and pretty bad by the time we moved out--somebody was shot dead in a complex up the street in just such an argument. That incident's stayed with me permanently.
