I can't believe someone actually shouted this last night (not sure if was directed at me or not) as I was waiting to turn left on Robb from Parkcrest. Really what kind of person would yell something like that in public? This is what the Holiday Season brings out in people? Sad.

Yes I agree. Very sad indeed.
I know the intersection you are referencing. It is somewhat tricky.

Yeah. Seems like the world is moving so fast and furiously for everyone, people tend to be kind of on edge...it is a little bit sad. I've been known to mutter quite the obscenity under my breath and I try to check myself...usually its not a big deal.

Feel the love people! We're all here together!

I agree with Tubby. This stuff has nothing much to do with traffic. It has everything to do with stress which can be very high at the Holidays. I suspect that a lot of auto fatalities are homicides and suicides that go undetected because they are attributed to careless driving instead of stress fueled road rage. Another good reason to have a large, safe vehicle.

Sorry, didn't know that it was you.

People anymore just don't seem to have any common courtesy on the road. Just the simple things like using a turn signal or keeping a safe distance and not yelling at a poor old lady because she is going a few MPH under the speed limit. There used to be a time when I enjoyed driving but anymore it seems to be a hassle from both ends - those who don't drive very well and those who think they can drive and yell, scream, and have the fingers flying!

This goes on every day where I live. For that reason I gave up on vehicle ownership after my four-wheeled baby breathed its last exhaust. It's been nearly 13 years, and I've only rented cars on maybe three occasions since. Luckily I have the luxury of being a city dweller where there's decent mass transit. (Of course, having plenty of friends with "wheels" helps at times too.)

It stays funny to me that folks think Cincinnati drivers are so incompetent and nasty, when it's a breeze to be behind the wheel there. Most streets and highways are capable of carrying the volume of traffic they have, rush hours don't take up half the day, fellow motorists actually allow people in from side streets or to make a quick lane change, etc etc. But there's been a definite increase in careless driving all the same. In recent years, my dad's cars have wound up on the wrong side of: an SUV being operated way too fast for conditions during a snowstorm on I-75, someone parked behind him on a street who hit-and-ran the left rear of his car when leaving, and a trucker arriving to make a Kroger* delivery who "didn't notice" that the end space on a parking-lot row was occupied. Mom refuses to drive any more in part due to some moron's rear-ending her car as she waited in traffic with the left-turn signal on. Any number of factors could be causing all this, but I think an "insurance will take care of it" attitude plays a part. Recklessness, cellphone yakking, rude behavior, etc can go on unchecked when the offender knows their policy will cover expenses and only cost them a few "points."

*I made sure to mention the supermarket chain here, in case Crew Chief reads this post.

If you ever see a red Mazda 3 with Pennsylvania plates doing that very thing ... nope, it's not me.

I'm lucky if I get through a morning's commute without emitting a similar phrase only once; like Goyguy, I live in commuter hell. When I lived in Madison Place and worked downtown, I could be at work in 11 minutes flat. Now, 13-mile drive takes 35 minutes, on a good day. *sigh* And everyone in Philadelphia drives like an idiot.

A week in Boston, Washington, LA or even Chicago would be enough to make most Cincinnatians appreciate how easy it is to get around town.

I love Cincinnati traffic. I don't commute on I-71 but drive straight through the city. At 5 PM, which would be a total nightmare everywhere else I lived, there is moderate traffic and you might wait for the most 2 cycles at the busiest light.

The drivers here seem very reasonable to me. Of course I come from a lineage of high blood pressure type "A" drivers. My response is to put on the radio and try not to get too involved in the driving or stressed out about it. Still occasionally if I don't watch myself I can get stressed out and its possible a few curses might pass my lips. But I learned over the years not to curse directly at other drivers, it isn't worth getting shot over (you tend to learn this if you drive for any length of time in California).

This is probably a good place to put up the video of my rush hour commute from Mt. Lookout to downtown:
