MMM...quick lets grab some CSA data, last on the list obviously. And of course this is where I point to Dayton and Cincinnati should rightfully be CSA, since their metros run smack into each other. That would be around:

2,971,653

But hey, let's skip common sense and stick with the official government numbers.

Cincinnati and Dayton will certainly be one CSA for the 2020 census. There is little distinction between south Dayton and north Cincinnati at this point.

The capital of any state always has a healthier economy and more jobs than other cities.

Tallahassee, Albany, Jefferson City, Springfield, Sacramento, Santa Fe, Carson City, Trenton, Raleigh, Lansing, Harrisburg, Frankfort, Salem, Olympia, Pierre, Juneau, Montgomery, Cheyenne, Richmond, Lincoln and Baton Rouge.

That's almost half the U.S. and none of those cities possess the healthiest economies, have the most jobs or are the economic drivers of their respective states.

Sorry, but government numbers are applied the same way with every city/metro/csa. Just because you demand that cities be added together has nothing to do with the requirements that need to be met for the designation to happen. Just like some folks can't accept that Cleveland/Akron aren't in the same metro, some need to accept that Cincy/Dayton aren't either.

Yes, yes ... we all understand why you don't want Cincinnati/Dayton to be considered one CSA. If Cincinnati/Dayton are one metro and Cleveland/Akron are another, two dominating metros will bookend Columbus and essentially dwarf it. Unfortunately for you, Cincinnati/Dayton will be one CSA for the next census.

And Cleveland/Akron are very much one metro. Anyone with any sense at all can see that. Of course, no one is going to accuse the government of possessing much sense.

According to the Wikipedia entry on Dayton, the possible origin for its "Gem City" nickname stems directly from Cincinnati:

(One) explanation for the nickname Gem notes that Dayton's sister city to the south, Cincinnati, is known as the "Queen City." Dayton is a gem in the queen's crown.
