Just got home from a mediocre performance of Dirty Dancing. They could have skipped the entire show and gone right to the finale! That was the best part of the show. Everyone around us felt that this was a good High School or College student performance. Not worth the 70.00 face on the tkts.

MrsM and I have had season tickets since The Taft Theater hosted the series, including the year (s?) at Music Hall. We pay almost 1,200.00 to see several crap shows, several retreads (honestly, how many times does Wicked have to be back in such a short period of time?) just to see 1 or possibly 2 good new shows (This year it's the new play Once) I can't remember the last time we had a well known actor come through town.

We pay extra for the "honor" of being able to sit in the Golden Circle, or what ever the Hell its called. At least when the Aronoff opened up the extra was a tax deductible deduction for a few rows, now no deduction and half the orchestra.

The series has been going downhill for many years. If next season isnt better, bye bye after over 4o years (Longer, if you count the Schubert, but we didn't subscribe then. We bought tickets for every show.

I know the choice is ours and we will make it when the time comes.

My question for this forum is why does Cincinnati get the crap shows? Is it because we are too gullible and buy year after year? There are good traveling shows. Look up Broadway Across America

Playhouse in the Park has been getting better and better every year. The Pops are still the best bargain in town. Ensemble Theater of Cincinnati is excellent

So, why are we getting crapped upon?

The Playhouse always is a better bet. I don't recall ever seeing a bad play there.

I prefer local theater performances, especially Footlighters and Mariemont Players: more bang for the buck, more cosy setting, smaller crowds.

OTR has much live theater. Know Theater, Ensemble, performances at CAA, Salem United, etc. All very cool and no sticker shock.

Quite a few years ago the Mrs and I were patron level sponsors of the Broadway Series at the Aronoff. She enjoyed the performances and kept up our patronage, I not so such much as I felt they were overpriced for what was delivered. When her mobility decreased to requiring the power wheelchair to get around she decided it was too much effort to go downtown to shows and we dropped out.

It is sad that fine arts require patronage. If the work was entertaining enough, it should stand on its own.

That's kinda what I was trying to say. Higher prices, patron add on and mediocre theater. We've supported em long enough

You could say the same about the Reds and the Bengals, for instance - patronage in the form of corporate sponsorships.
