Hi all,

I'm relocating for work to Alexandria, Ky. from a family perspective, I'd like to live in Mason Oh for the great schooling but I'm worried about traffic. Any idea of typically traffic from Mason to Alexandria in the morning and back from Alexandria to Mason in the evening?

Thanks

At least you are going against the flow of traffic. It will still be a nightmare.

Couldn't pass up the chance to be in wholehearted agreement with Wilson513!
Distance-wise it probably seems excessive, but on days with especially bad traffic taking the 275 loop all the way around almost makes sense. Few are the back-ups along its eastern and southern portions. Those are some of the segments which were constructed comparatively recently, meaning they were built to carry more traffic than were the older sections and as a rule are easy to use like you're on an expressway.
I'd wake up screaming at the thought of having to make that commute daily. But with all the "best" suburban school districts clustered to the north and northeast of the city you won't do much better elsewhere than Mason (at least in Ohio.)

We live in Norwood and my husband works in Erlanger. It takes him 30-45minutes in the AM (7:30-8) and an hour or more in the 5-5:30PM traffic.

Youd be farther up, so it would take you forever. I personally wouldnt do it.

That's a long drive. You'll be going against the grain part of the way but US 27 through Campbell County is terrible at hours. It might be easier to go 471 to 275 to AA.

Would be much easier to move to Fort Thomas or one the great KY school districts.

Absolutely agree with this. You could hardly come up with a worse commute in the Cincinnati metro area. Although the school system for Alexandria itself is probably nothing to write home about, there are several excellent districts in northern Kentucky, including Beechwood and Ft. Thomas. I always feel compelled to mention to people coming from out of state that the stereotypes they may hold about "Kentucky" really don't apply much at all any more, and certainly don't apply to the part of the state adjoining Cincinnati. The suburbs are really indistinguishable from each other.

In a word, you can find a number of school districts closer to your work that will offer just as good an education as Mason. There's no reason to move there. Period.

I live in Mason and love it. But the thought of living in Mason and commuting to Alexandria KY, NO THANKS!

I live in Mason and commuted to Norwood for several years. That was tolerable. But it was also back when the traffic on I-71 was a fraction of today. There were no predictable bottlenecks. I lucked out with my company closing the factory in Norwood and building a new one in Mason giving me an under 5-min commute - glorious.

I agree with the suggestions of looking to live in one of the better school districts in KY. A Mason commute is just asking for a beating.

Thanks so much all! I guess we will avoid Mason. Any other areas with good school districts closer to the border with KY?

Definitely, there is Blue Ash in the Sycamore School District which is top ranked. Blue Ash itself offers many attractive city functions for residents - the Rec Center, the city owned Blue Ash Golf Course recently remodeled to expand the club house into a full-fledged dining and meeting facility. the still being constructed new park on the former airport site, and the numerous city sponsored events in the public gathering areas. And of course the Kenwood Towne Center with its mega shopping in right next door.
